November Composer of the Month

In November, we are highlighting Arcangelo Corelli, an Italian violinist and composer during the Baroque era. Born in 1653, Corelli was key to the development of the modern genres of sonata and concerto, as well as establishing the importance of the violin in the traditional orchestra. Spending much of his life in Rome, he was highly regarded by patrons, courts, and artistic societies. His compositions are characterized by theatricality and polyphony, which is when there are simultaneous melodic lines. We recommend listening to his 12 Concerti Grossi, or his Christmas Concerto in preparation for the holiday season!
